To be fair a lot of bro trucks and stanced cars are pretty dangerous.

9/10, Actual bro-trucks aren't daily drivers. Slightly lifted ones, sure, but the 12 inch lifted on 40's are not. Also, since most of the bro-trucks are of the HD variety, they have huge as brakes and can stop decently well. Stanced cars on the other hand, suck ass at all things, but as long as they aren't on stretched tires, I don't really care. Except at speed bumps. Source, drive a lifted SUV, it's plenty maneuverable and stops just fine.

A bro-truck is just as dangerous as a stanced car. Depending on the builder, there can be questionable quality and longevity. Then the amount of lift can defeat the vehicle's safety features (sure, you'll be fine, but can't say the same about cars you may hit) and any improper calculations will throw the centre of gravity all out of whack.

And don't even get me started on bro-truck lighting.

Looks like you have a properly modified SUV, kudos to you! :)
Unfortunately, most bro-trucks aren't like yours.

I know, I'm just saying in general that there should be some sort of restrictions. Like if your vehicle is based on a commercial vehicle (as most RVs and vehicles like the International CXT are), you should have to have a license to drive it.

As far as pickups? Can't do much about it. Stock, they aren't bad...it's only when idiots decide that they want to lift their cab to semi tractor height for no good reason...

Meh. It's not like there's a rash of RV related wrecks going around. Most people, if they get into one and are incapable of driving it safely, stop driving. The ones that keep on truckin', as it were, are the problem and they're the exact same people who would blow off getting a license if it was a requirement. Same as they do today with motorcycle licenses.

I understand the gut reasoning behind it, but I don't see any real-world benefits of adding a restriction.

The other one I agree with is the backup cams. I've had 3 of my cars backed into. All of those accidents could have been prevented with cameras. Think of it less for you and more for them, the other drivers

I see 6" lifts with 35" almost everyday on the roads. Granted the bigger trucks with 37"+ aren't nearly as common. Will I don't have a problem with lifts or big tires (33.5" on my cruiser at the moment) its concerning to see trucks on the highway where the bumper is up to my window.

I will also say there is a big difference between a proper suspension lift and lift blocks. I see older trucks with tall lift blocks all the time. That is scary.

I agree completely. Driving an RV should require a CDL. But then I also think a regular OL should be much more difficult to get and there should be mandatory periodic retests.

I don't want restrictions on the vehicles, I just want to make sure the person behind the wheel is capable of operating the thing competently.

A loaded tractor-trailer operated by an excellent driver is safer than a moped operated by an asshat.

I really think regulating both lifted/lowered cars would be a massive waste of time. Id imagine the percentage of these cars on the road out of all the cars has got to be in the single digits. Everyone has to back up their car at some point, not everyone will own a car with an altered height.

You are right, there probably aren't a huge string of RV wrecks (thankfully) because it seems anyone with enough money to afford one can figure out how to drive one.

But I used it as a common example of how unsettling it is that your regular driver's license basically allows you to drive mostly anything with wheels that weighs less than a diesel-electric locomotive.

My favorite example are 26' rental trucks. If I had a nickel for every time I saw a U-Haul driving poorly (I even saw one completely murder a mailbox!) or even something larger like an ex-schoolbus doing the same...I'd probably only have enough to buy a Nissan Versa. :(

As the guy in the MR2 or BRZ whose head is at their rocker panel height when the bro decides to change lanes without looking, I'm annoyed. I know that not everyone's a terrible driver, but most people are, and being in a truck with the COG raised a foot and a half just compounds the situation. These things are actually illegal in many places for safety reasons, and while I'm usually the first person to yell "freedom/America fuck yeah!" and let people get on with doing their thing, this attitude ends when stupid decisions affect innocent bystanders.

Haha, tons of people do it. I was seriously considering it when I somehow lost my motorcycle endorsement after getting 3 different state's licenses while bopping place to place in the Navy. Ended up wasting my time going to an MSF course again since there was no way in WA state to get my bike to the test station without someone else riding it or trailering it in legally.

It's also why I think it's silly every time weight restricted licenses, or retesting every X years, or pulling old folks licenses comes up. It creates a burden on everyone even though the vast majority of people aren't going to go out there and do anything that is grossly unsafe to themselves or others. The folks who will go out there when they're not safe to be driving (be it age, vehicle type, infirmity, etc)? A piece of paper ain't gonna stop em.

I don't know, and neither do you. It's easier to find newspaper articles about street racing accidents because they sell papers, but I doubt that the DOT has any way to look at statistics per miles driven on bro-trucks. It doesn't matter anyway because it has nothing to do with the subject at hand. It would be a bit like saying "Atom bombs are fine because hydrogen bombs have a greater yield" only it's not because we have data on that. They're both shit.

Also, cops rarely pull bikes over, and even if they did, I'd probably feign ignorance, give him my regular license, and act confused. I was riding around without a license plate for a while without realizing it when my brother was making a new mount and no one noticed.

People street race in all kinds of things. I've seen two brodozers trying to outrun each other from a stop light before. Like I said before, you're not making a point that is relevant to your argument. My argument is that vehicles that high off the ground are fundamentally unsafe for vehicles around them when they crash. You don't seem to disagree. You even mentioned being able to run over a Prius. Complaining about street racing, which is also stupid and fundamentally unsafe, says nothing about the safety of bro trucks. In my legal-for-the-road cars (one of which is actually new, and pretty safe), I am likely to get very badly hurt if rear ended by a big one even at low speed because the wheels are able to climb on top of my car. The frame will not come in contact with my frame, so there will be nothing to slow it down. Now, what of people in convertibles? They don't have a roof or roll bar like I do. The bro-truck will end up in the cabin with the driver. Sorry dude, that's fucked up, and incredibly dick. I'd rather be rear-ended by a semi than a brodozer, because at least that was designed to be on the road with normal vehicles. I'm not going to be literally run over by one if rear ended. It will suck, yes, but I won't be sharing a seat with a wheel, you dig?

I would say that some modified vehicles are unsafe, but I would also say "who cares" because I'm way more likely to be killed by some jackass on a cellphone than I am some jabroni in a "bro truck" or "stanced" car. Although I'm sure that's going to be a tough statistic to prove, I think most would agree.

Also a lot of people are mentioning lifted trucks. I can honestly say that I have seen more Ferrari 458's that I have seen trucks that have been lifted more than a few inches, but I'm sure that is just geography.

I was only half-kidding about Texas, but your point about Hawaiian immigration is taken.

I live in the Southeast, and while I've heard of the legends, I see very few trucks lifted more than 5-6 inches. There are a fuckton of stanced Civics and Miatas. But it's always a Prius or Buick that causes problems.

That's kinda my point. If it had the lift that everyone on here complains about, the Hyundai would have hit the tire. What would happen after that is anyone's guess, whether the tires would have rolled over the hood and flipped the truck, or it would have rolled over the roof, can't really say. But the car would have looked like that even if the truck had no lift at all.

god damn. zero compassion. "i've got mine, why don't you got yours?" no allowance for anyone else, just complete and total disregard for anyone who isn't you. no allowances for you making mistakes because hey, you don't make any!

No I never once said I don't make mistakes, I'd just rather not suffer do to the mistakes of someone else.

As far as I could tell in my time in Hawaii, it was illegal to have a truck at STOCK height. Up or down, you choose at the dealer. But a little lift and some big tires was really useful to go out to some remote beaches, etc... if there were ever a place where people really used their lifted trucks, it was there.
